StarSQL System Requirements

Following are the system requirements for the StarSQL ODBC and JDBC drivers.

StarSQL for Java Client (JDBC driver)

StarSQL for Java runs on any system with a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) that is equivalent to that contained in the Java Development Kit (JDK) or the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) v1.5 or later.

StarSQL for Linux, UNIX, and Windows Client (ODBC driver)

The StarSQL 32-bit ODBC driver is supported on the following 32-bit platforms:

  • Windows 8.1, 10

The StarSQL 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC drivers are supported on the following 64-bit platforms:

  • Windows 8.1, 10, 11 x64 Edition
  • Windows Server 2012R2, 2016, 2019, 2022
  • Red Hat/CentOS/Oracle Linux 7.x or later
  • Other Linux distributions may work

Host Connectivity

StarSQL runs on the desktop, with no host software or proprietary gateways required, and works with existing TCP/IP or SSL connections to the host database. The driver uses the TCP/IP protocol to communicate directly to DB2 host systems. StarSQL can also be configured to communicate using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) to supported hosts. For environments where the host is not configured for SSL support, you can use StarSQL with StarQuest's StarPipes product to provide secure, encrypted communication over insecure networks.

StarSQL can use any of the following networks for host connectivity:

  • TCP/IP
  • StarPipes
  • TLS/SSL

Host Databases

You can use StarSQL for Windows, StarSQL for UNIX, and StarSQL for Java to connect to any of the following host databases:

  • DB2 for z/OS v8.1 and later
  • DB2 for i (formerly known as DB2/400, DB2 UDB for iSeries, and DB2 for i5/OS) running OS/400 V5R4 and later
  • DB2 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows (LUW) v8.2 and later
  • Apache Derby
